ROSANNA DAVISON - Unofficial Information Page |
Two years before Rosanna was born, her Mother - Diane Davison had suffered an ectopic pregnancy but was helped by the quick intervention of family friend Dr Joe Duignan and the surgical skill of Dr Michael Darling.Chris de Burgh said in 'The Authorized Biography 1996': " After the history of what Diane and I had been through - we both yearned for children - Rosanna's birth was obviously a huge moment in our lives. We felt very fortunate to have a child at all, and for me to be there at the birth It was a real mash of emotions, but it was an extraordinary thing to happen to us." |
| Rosanna was Christened on 17 February 1985 - named Rosanna Diane. Whenever possible CdeB took his family on tour with him, especially in the early years. When writing for the album 'Into The Light' during 1985, CdeB felt that he needed to write a song about the "amazing, strong emotions that you get when you have your child in your arms." He describes writing the song 'For Rosanna' as not an easy song to write due to the powerful emotions involved; in the Getaway Gazette 1986 Chris wrote: "The song was a release and a therapy - but it's only a part of the way I feel. I would have liked to have made a ten-minute song just to say everything I wanted to! |
| When I did this song, I ran back into the studio to listen to it and I was in tears at the end of it because I'd actually managed to grab the emotion I was attempting to convey. It hit me right between the eyes. It was a moving moment. I also had a strong feeling that this is the best gift I've ever given Rosanna. You know how parents and kids are -they don't get on very well when the kids are teenagers -but at least I'll know that, in a quiet moment, she might go away when she's older and, if she's had a row with her dad and her mother, she might listen to this song. It's just like a present for her -it's forever. I felt really good about that, felt really strongly that I'd done something which all parents would like to do, but which most people can't actually say. It wasn't an easy song to write, or easy to crystallize just how I felt." Rosanna was the athletics captain in her fifth and sixth year in school, represented her secondary school in the prestigious All Ireland finals, and after gaining four 'A' grades and two 'B' grades in her Leaving Certificate, entered University College Dublin to study archaeology, sociology and the history of art. She speaks English, Irish and French fluently, and is widely travelled, an artist and sculptress who enjoys music, cinema and art, and is an avid dancer who has studied ballet and modern dance. Rosanna also enjoys athletics, swimming, snow and water-skiing, hockey, tennis and hill walking. |

MISS DUN LAOGHAIRE 2003In 2003 aged just 19, Rosanna was approached to enter the Miss Dun Laoghaire contest held at the Nemo Bar and Café in Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin. Chris de Burgh described what happened on www.cdeb.com in Nov 2003: "She only went into it, because she was at a shopping centre in Dun Laoghaire in Ireland, and somebody came up to her and said "would you like to go in for a beauty competition next Saturday?". As she says herself, her boyfriend was away and she wasn't busy that Saturday, so she went in. Nobody knew anything about her, but she obviously wowed the judges." |
| Rosanna also won the Miss Hawaiian Tropic prize at the UCD Arts Fashion Show in the RDS in Dublin. (The UCD Arts Fashion Show showcases some of Ireland's leading young Irish designers). | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
MISS IRELAND 2003In March 2003 at a celebrity packed ceremony at the City West Hotel Ireland, Rosanna easily ran away with the crown and was awarded the title of Miss Ireland 2003. Within six months of winning the title of Miss Ireland, Rosanna found herself flying out to the South China beach resort of Sanya in China to compete in the Miss World competition of 2003 in front of an estimated 2.5 billion people worldwide. Rosanna, officially Contestant No. 52, had previously taken the Miss World Beach title, and was the favourite to turn the judges' head in Sanya. |
MISS WORLD 2003On Saturday 6th of December 2003, Rosanna shined brighter then the other 105 contestants from around the globe to be crowned one of the most beautiful women on earth and the first Irish girl to win the Miss World title. |
| She accepted
her tiara with minimum fuss, waving calmly to the audience as the other
contestants hugged and kissed her while gold confetti was fired out of
a mock cannon. As Miss World Rosanna has travelled all over
the world, to places like the U.S., Canada, China, Sri Lanka, Germany,
Poland, England and so forth promoting the Miss World Pageant.
