Almost from out of nowhere, Geordie comedienne Sarah Millican has burst onto the stand up scene following her award winning strewn career coming to light in 2005. Regular TV and radio appearances – not least her BBC Radio 4 show, The Sarah Millican Support Group­ – have undoubtedly done for this “ordinary girl” from Newcastle as much as they have for fellow comedian, and “ordinary lad” from Liverpool, John Bishop. Yet, with this being her first ever national tour – and with this being the biggest and surely most magnificent venue on that tour – would she be able to cut the mustard?

Well the answer is a resounding yes, because from first to last Millican focuses on the ordinary, gives it a vicious twist and continuously has the audience howling with laughter.
Perhaps what is most surprising is that this blonde, plump mumsy-looking woman, dressed in sensible slacks, floral print blouse and white trainers is so flipping filthy at times it could make a Glasgow bin man double take.

There’s also the fact that, given that she’s relatively new on the scene her assured presence gives a sense of maturity, enabling an interaction with the audience with which even the most experienced would be delighted.

Without question, this engagement immediately guarantees a cracking night’s entertainment as Millican covers everything from broken banjo strings to living away for 3 months in Australia with such speed of thought, it’s as though she’s been doing it for decades.

Observational, spontaneous humour is reliant on a responsive crowd and it’s unlikely anything other than a wave of warmth crashed over the Liverpool audience from the moment the lights dimmed.
