Vancouver blues-rock masters No Sinner, with the velvet-coating-a-steel-fist vocals of Coleen Dennison to the front and centre, are back. Boo Hoo Hoo, the band’s debut, came out in 2014 and quite simply rocked everybody – and there were more than a few – who heard it.

Now with Old Habits Die Hard, they’ve made a meal of the concept of ‘that difficult second album’ and turned out something that is really quite special. From the moment Dennison stretches her vocal chords to rip out the opener, All Woman until the final magical embers of Mandy Lyn finally fade, listeners are guaranteed to have experienced a musical feast that more than satisfies throughout.

A Friend of Mine  is so catchy it should have warning stickers plastered across it, with Eric Campbell’s acidic guitar and Ian Browne’s heartbeat drumming truly shining.  Hollow, with its intensely passionate lyrics and delivery, oozes class, whereas Fade Away, with its sassy, funk filled rhythms, would be worthy Prince’s moniker.

Yet with this said, the stand out track is without question Saturday Night. A song so alive, so vigorous, so out-and-out life affirming. Its power levels are jacked up to maximum overload levels so that it’s fun factor evokes nostalgic feelings of just about every fantastic party you’ve ever attended.

This without question is an album that should be in everybody’s collection and is something that makes the heart soar. Not only that, but No Sinner about to embark on a European tour. Guess what’s next for the wish list!
