THE GOO GOO DOLLS - LET LOVE IN

Feel The Silence, with its haunting opening riff, multi-layered harmonies and deep-rooted soulful lyrics, is as exquisite as anybody as anybody has a right to expect though as with every album, however, there are inevitably low points. On Let Love In, the only low is the cover version of Supertramp’s Give A Little Bit but only in as much as it’s a little sad that a band of The Goo Goo Dolls obvious talent should resort to covering anybody. The version offered here is as strong, if not stronger, than the original and offers testament to the beauty of the album in itself.

Highlights? The other eight tracks not already mentioned, but most especially Can’t Let Go. A song that demonstrates so much craft, it has a melody so catchy it should come with an anti-serum. One dose of this and you’ll be humming the tune and have the chorus in your head for months, guaranteed. Whereas Stay With You is a superb offering of raw power that can rival anything being presently turned out by anybody anywhere.

The Goo Goo Doll’s tenth outing is, quite simply, an exceptional piece of work that stands proudly as an essential purchase. They may have taken their time, but the wait’s been more than worth it in the end.
