SNOW PATROL - EYES OPENPolydor

EYES
OPEN by |
|||||
The much awaited follow up to the mega-hit Final Straw sees Gary Lightbody and his band of hard hitters come back even stronger after a year of touring with the likes of U2 and selling out gigs in their own right. |

With its intensely rich, intricately
woven melodies and deeply resonant lyrics, Eyes Open
is a master class in all that it takes to be successful. Not that being
recognised is the be all and end all, but it certainly helps and Snow
Patrol have one of the most clearly defined sounds around at the present
time. There are so many highlights here it
is difficult to list them all without turning this into a sales pitch.
However, Eyes Open, Chasing Cars
and You Could Be Happy, as outstanding as they are, pale into
insignificance when put alongside a track as emotive as Make This
Go On Forever. In this five-minute wonder, Snow Patrol have created
a monster truck track guaranteed to make the hairs stand up on the back
of each and every listener’s necks in a second, such is its power
and unadulterated allegiance to class. Eyes Open
can be seen as further massive stride along the road for a band destined
for greatness beyond the dreams of many bands around today, who rely
on cheap rip-off imitation styles of days past. Here is true genius at work and long
may it continue. |
