JAGGED LITTLE PILL - ACOUSTIC BY ALANIS MORISSETTE |
||||
| Ten minutes on and things tend to sound tired and dull and, let's be fair, over stated. So the release Jagged Little Pill ten years down the road from making Alanis Morissette her name can be seen as something of a brave move. | |||||
|
Tracks best suited to the acoustic treatment
on offer here are Ironic, Right Through You, Mary Jane
and You Learn. You Oughta Know has changed from the rage
encrusted bunny boiler song of the original album and appears here as
a melancholy ballad that is so moving that it echoes of late original
Floyd. What is most striking throughout though
is the versatility that Morisette has managed to inject into her singing.
Always powerful, it did tend to screech when at its most urgent. No
longer. Every word here is discernible, clear and emotive as it swoops
and dives throughout. Never mind that you've got the original,
buy this album. It's a whole new deal and its quality is guaranteed
to last far longer than ten minutes. |
