Convicted for the murder of his Grandmother in 1970, within three years Harold Stamp is found dead by his own hand. The years of brutality inside and the thought of isolation outside, proves too much for the man and few shed any tears over his passing.

However, nothing is rarely so straight forward and, more than thirty years later, Anthropologist, Dr Jonathan Hughes, author of a recent book concerning miscarriages of justice, is approached to piece together an unofficial cold case in Harold's posthumous defence.

Written in a style that she has made so successfully her own, Minette Walters immediately gets the reader asking themselves questions and so sets the pages flapping over in a fury. The inventive characterisation of the principal protagonists, along with a supporting cast of peripherals, all add up to a strong plot development that is evident throughout, whereas the situations are never anything other than plausible thanks to the author's close attention to detail.

Following her numerous previous outings, the author shows little sign of winding down and this offering will keep the reader fixated from start to finish.
