The guardian angels of Scotland's whisky
have long had cause to be glad
of the generous share of premium malt
afforded them by porous barrels
deep in the glens of the north.

If the three wealthiest people in the world today
would only consider an angel's share
then half a billion of the world's poorest
could be fed and clothed for free.

Just think how much brighter the world could be
if Scrooge and Branson divided their wealth,
or P. Diddy went halves with MC Hammer;
and think what sweet music would have been made
if only Mama Cass had given her sandwich
to Karen Carpenter.

Of course, it's possible to take this sharing thing too far.
A.Q. Khan's free-market approach
to the secrets of the bomb
might have delighted a few dictators
but hardly made reassuring bedtime reading.
There's probably a case for saying
that Eve should have kept the apple to herself.
And if Frodo had given the Ring away...

...well then we'd all be buggered.
