| Below are a collection of rare and uncommon facts taken directly from past CdeB interviews. Some you may already know and hopefully, some may be new to you. In all the many weeks of research needed to find these hidden gems, one thing stands out in my memory, and that is the countless ways that CdeB has constantly benefited many charities throughout his career. Most of these selfless acts are never reported or made common knowledge, but done instead with just the minimum amount of fuss possible. It would take a whole new website just to list them all. Best wishes - STEVE BENNETT. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| THE
BALLROOM OF ROMANCE: started off as "Dance Hall In Beirut", -but
nobody liked that very much! Source = The Getaway Gazette Vol 1. No. 6. THE
LADY IN RED started off as ' The Way You Look Tonight' but was changed
as Tina
Turner spoke and whispered on the track ' The Sound Of A Gun'. How it
came THE
SPIRIT OF MAN: was originally titled 'The Spirit of War' ONE
WORD: was re-recorded four times in the studio before CdeB settled on
the version we hear today on 'Into The Light'. The
first 2 weeks of recording the Into The Light album were a complete waste
of time and a very unhappy experience for CdeB. During
a CdeB concert in Bilbao 1987 - drummer Jeff Philips fell through the
stage and split his left hand finger all the way down to the bone. While
touring the U.S.A. during the Crusader days , Chris and the band lived
on a bus for 6 to 8 weeks in a go, eventually going crazy with bus fever. CdeB's
Mum had an Irish wolf hound called 'Crusader'. CdeB
recorded a version of 'Nights In White Satin' for the' Best Moves' album
but it was decided to go with 'Every Drop Of Rain' instead. For
the first ten years of being in entertainment, CdeB made little or no
money whatsoever. The
first working title for the 'Flying Colours' album was 'Temptation' which
was to be one of the track titles on the record, this song fell by the
wayside because as they started assembling the other tracks it became
a kind of a least favourite song. The working title then became 'Deep
Blue Sky' but that went also as Chris thought there were too many connotations
around the word 'blue'- one of them being melancholy. During
the recording for 'Just A Word Away' on the 'Flying Colours ' album, there
was drilling going on nearby in the recording studio. CdeB recorded this
track alone around 70 times before walking in one day and did it perfectly
first take.. CdeB
tried to get hold of recording star - Joe Cocker to see if he could come
out and record a track with him for the 'Flying Colours' album, but it
didn't prove possible. In
1985 at the Festival Gardens concert in Liverpool, CdeB sang the song
'Without You' by Nilsson. The
decision for Rupert Hine to produce the 'Power of Ten' album was taken
when CdeB bumped into him in a corridor while at a rehearsal studio in
London for the 'Simple Truth' Kurdish show in 1991. At
the 1992 performance at Ephesus -Turkey, the equipment was held up by
customs and didn't arrive at the arena in the morning as expected, but
6.45pm when the audience was already into the venue. In
1994 CdeB came up with two choices for the title of his new album, one
was 'Elevator' the other- 'This Way Up'. The
'Beautiful Dreams' Album was recorded in only eight days in July 1995
at the Whitfield Street and Angel Recording Studios in London. The
song 'One More Mile To Go' was originally written in 1982 and played to
'Man On The Line' producer Rupert Hine, he dismissed it as not very good. While
CdeB was performing on stage during an open air concert in 1996, a lady
at the front had forgotten to take her pills and had an epileptic fit
which involved paramedics and guys in orange uniforms rushing around. During
the recording of the 'Quiet Revolution' album, Chris de Burgh impersonator
-Ian Moor was invited to the recording studio one day and even got to
sing on one of the tracks. Around
800 promotional photographs for the release of 'Quiet Revolution' were
taken in one of London's oldest surviving houses by photographer Paul
Cox. The session took around ten hours to do. The
'Timing Is Everything' album was originally set to contain a track called
'Through These Eyes'. The
song ' The Simple Truth' was the first track to be completely produced
by CdeB. After getting "slightly hammered" during a meal in
a Greek restaurant, CdeB did a vocal guide in the studio for the following
days work. The next day he couldn't better it, and so as a result we still
have that wonderful recording on the album. For
the recording of 'The Head And The Heart' on the 'Man On The Line' album,
the piano was played by eighties recording star Howard Jones. |
